    For those looking to explore Korean cuisine in an easy and accessible way, I highly recommend trying out ‘Bulgogi.’ Bulgogi is one of Korea’s most famous meat dishes, featuring thinly sliced beef marinated in a savory-sweet sauce and grilled to perfection. Making bulgogi at home is surprisingly simple and incredibly rewarding.

     

    •  How to cook Bulgogi

    To put it very simply, it’s as follows.

    To start, thinly slice your choice of beef.

    Popular cuts include sirloin or tenderloin. Then, prepare the marinade by combining soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, minced green onions, sesame oil, and black pepper in a bowl.

    Mix these ingredients thoroughly until the sugar is dissolved. Next, add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring that each piece is well coated.

    Let the beef marinate for at least 30 minutes to an hour to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat

     

    Once the beef has marinated, heat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.

    Place the marinated beef onto the grill, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.

    Cook the beef for about 3-5 minutes on each side, flipping occasionally, until it is cooked through and caramelized on the edges.

    Then, how do Koreans eat this?

    Bulgogi can be enjoyed in many different ways. You can put meat on rice and mix it together in a bowl, or boil it in a pot and eat it in the form of a soup with vegetables and noodles. You can eat it wrapped in raw vegetables such as lettuce in the Korean style ‘sam'(쌈) method. Bulgogi with ssamjang is another good dish for its attractiveness. With some simple ingredients and simple cooking skills, you can bring delicious Korean flavors to your own kitchen.

    IVE는 한국의 초등학생 여아들 사이에서 단연코 가장 인기 많은 아이돌 그룹이 되었습니다. 물론 “Newjeans” 를 좋아하는 친구들도 많습니다. 하지만 초등학생 사이에서는 아이브의 인기가 더 쎈 것 같습니다.

    일반적으로 보면 연령대가 높아지면 “Newjeans” 를 더 선호 하는 경향을 띱니다.  그럼에도 불구하고  초등학생들 사이에서는 왜 IVE가 가장 인기있을까요?

    아이브 팬 1년차인 저의 초등학생 딸을 보면서 그 이유를 분석해 볼 수 있었습니다.

    그 이유는 다음과 같습니다.

     

    • 포토 카드 모으기 놀이

      ive 앨범을 살때 마다 포토카드를 랜덤으로 뽑을 수 있습니다.
      다른 가수들도 이런 방식을 많이 쓰고 있지만, 그 중에서 초등학생들의 마음을 가장 사로잡은 가수는 ive입니다.

      2022년엔 초등학생들 사이에서 ‘포켓몬 띠부씰’ 모으는 것이 유행이었습니다. 이유는 알 수 없지만 아이들 사이에선 무언가 모으는 것이 끊임없이 유행합니다.  그것이 미취학 아동일 때는 시리즈 애니메이션 캐릭터 상품 이었습니다.
      하지만 10살 정도의 나이가 되면 아이돌에 관심이 많아지고, 그것이 아이돌 포토카드 모으기로 옮겨 갑니다.
      시즌 별로 계속 출시되는 포토카드를 모으기 위해 아이들은 노력합니다. (엄마와 함께)

    • 다양한 캐릭터 굿즈 (minive)

    Minve – 아이브를 캐릭터로 만든 것

    Minve 캐릭터를 만들어서 다양한 굿즈 상품을 만들었습니다. 이것이 초등학생 아이들의 취향을 저격할 만한 상품들이었죠. 이런 상품들은 아주 금방 품절되어 구하기 어려울 정도입니다.

    실제로 2023 크리스마스 Minve는 오픈하고 바로 품절 되기도 했습니다. (저의 딸은 구매에 실패하였습니다)

    이처럼 가수를 단지 음악만으로 소비하는 것이 아닌, 다양한 굿즈 상품들로 소비하는 것이 요즘 아이들의 문화입니다.

     

    • 유튜브 – 다이브 방송 (ive dive)

      아이브의 팬클럽 이름은 Dive 입니다.
      유튜브 영상을 통해 많은 팬들이 “dive-log” 를합니다. 그들은 서로 정보를 주고 받으며 재미를 느낍니다. 포토카드 같은 것들을 거래하기도 하고 여러 활동으로 소통하며 즐기는 문화가 있습니다. 이것이 유튜브 생태계에서 그들이 노는 방식입니다.

      남의 팬질을 보며 공감하고 대리만족 합니다.

    • 경제 거래의 재미 – 아이브 덕질로 배우는 초딩 경제

    아이브 포토카드는 랜덤으로 구매하게 되기 때문에 본인이 원하는 것이 나오지 않을 때가 많습니다.  그렇기 때문에 중고 포토카들 거래가 활성화 되어있습니다. 학교 친구들과 직거래를 하기도하고,  친구들 끼리 선물로 주고 받기도 합니다.

    더 나아가 중고마켓에서 거래하는 것이 매우 활성화 되어있습니다.  인기도에 따라 몇 천원 부터 몇 만원까지 다양하게 형성되어 있습니다. 이러한 거래 문화는 의외로 긍정적 효과도 있습니다. 중고 거래를 통해 아이들이 시장경제에 대해 배우게 되는 효과가 있습니다.

      물론 이것이 위에 나열한 여러 이유 보다 가장 핵심적인 이유라고 할 수 있습니다

      과하게 섹시하지 않으면서도 매력적이고,
      예쁘고 귀여운 십대 소녀의 컨셉을 잘 유지하고 있습니다.

    If you enjoy watching Korean dramas or movies, you’ve heard “진짜”(jin jja) a lot.

    That’s why there are many people who know the word even if it’s not Korean.

    “진짜”(jin jja) is simply a very diverse Korean language. In the dictionary sense, it means “true, not fake.” But in everyday language, it’s sometimes used differently depending on subtle nuances.

    한국 드라마나 영화를 즐겨 보시는 분이라면 “진짜” 라는 말을 매우 많이 들어봤을 겁니다.

    그래서 한국인이 아니어도 그 말을 알고, 따라하기도 하더라고요.

    “진짜” 는 그야말로 매우 다양하게 쓰이는 한국어 입니다. 사전적 의미로는 ‘거짓으로 만들어 낸 것이 아닌 참된 것’ 이라는 뜻지요. 하지만 일상 언어에서는 미묘한 뉘앙스에 따라 다르게 쓰이기도 합니다.

    So I summarized how the Korean word “진짜”(jin jja) which is commonly used, is used in each situation.

     

    how to use 진짜(jinjja)

    1. A situation where you check if it’s true. – 사실인지 확인하는 상황
      “진짜?” and ask if what the other person said is true. representative expression in dictionary.
      “진짜?” 라고 물어보면서 상대방이 한 말이 사실인지 물어봅니다. 사전적 의미로 일반적으로 쓰는 표현.

    2. a situation in which one expresses one’s feelings of regret, surprise, happiness, etc –  자신의 감정을 토로할 때, 감정표현을 위한 말, 감탄사 같은 느낌으로 쓰이기도 합니다.
      It is also used as a language for expressing emotions, like exclamations.
      정말 다양한 상황이 있을 수 있습니다. 감정에 따른 쓰임은 아래의 예시를 보세요.
      There can be so many different situations. See the example below for emotional use.
      When I’m angry ▶ (angry)  “아…진짜!!”


      When I’m happy ▶ (laughing) “아~진짜..”


      When I’m sad ▶ (with a gloomy face) “아..진짜…”


      When you’re surprised ▶ (surprised) “아 진짜!!”

       

    3. When you sympathize with the other person – 상대방에 말에 공감할 때
      ex)
      You: I was so angry about that
      Me: “진짜…!! (…you must have done that/Omitted)
      상대방: 나 그것 때문에 화가 너무 났잖아
      나: “진짜…!! (그랬겠다/생략)
      When the other person is true, they use “진짜?” but they also use “진짜…” in a sympathetic sense. This is the difference in nuance of the situation.
      상대방 말이 사실일때 “진짜?” 도 쓰지만 공감하는 의미로 “진짜..”도 씁니다. 이것은 상황에 따른 뉘앙스의 차이입니다.  뒷말은 생략되었다고 볼 수 있습니다.

    You can see that the same words are used in a variety of idioms.

    If you’ve watched a lot of Korean dramas or movies, you’ll probably understand this situational meaning.

     

    같은 말을 다양하게 관용적으로 쓰는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.  아마 한국 드라마나 영화를 많이 보신 분이라면 이러한 상황적 의미를 이해하실 수 있을 겁니다.
